Venvi Art Gallery is pleased to present “Spectrum” a solo exhibition by local artist, Dan Taylor. Returning for his fifth solo show with Venvi, Taylor is bringing a new focus to this body of work by exploring and celebrating humanity’s wide spectrum of diversity through colorful abstract compositions. The wide array of colors, textures, and compositions that make up the show, is inspired by the artist’s contemplations on the world and our society. This embrace of diversity shows Taylor’s appreciation for all of mankind and a celebration of our uniqueness. The past few years have brought a lot of these differences to the surface and sometimes it's hard to remember our shared humanity; but Taylor hopes that as you peruse the walls filled with his diverse body of work, you are reminded of the beauty that is in everyone.

DEATHTRAP Written by Ira Levin
Audition Dates: Apr 24 & 25 at 7pm, Performance Dates: June 9-26, 2022, Directed by Matthew Watson
Casting: 3 men & 2 women, ages 20s-50s. All roles open to any race/ethnicity.
Auditions will consist of readings from the script sides. Please download an audition packet for more information.
SYNOPSIS: In Ira Levin’s classic comedic thriller, Deathtrap, a washed-up playwright finds a chance to rise to the top once more, a shot he’d be willing to kill for. Sidney Bruhl hasn’t written a hit play for 18 years when he receives a script from a former student, Clifford Anderson, that’s a guaranteed success. His wife, Myra, suggests the two men could collaborate; Sidney jokes that it’d be just as easy to murder the young man and steal the script for his own. When Clifford arrives later that evening, no one--not even the visiting psychic--could predict where the dark events of the night will go. Who is innocent? Who only seems that way? Deathtrap is a sharply funny play full of twists and turns that keep an audience on the edge of their seats. Is anyone really safe when a man sees a clean shot at success?

Refuges of Freedom: Free Blacks and Maroon Communities in Colonial Florida
Senior Curator Michelle Hearn examines the complexity that people of African descent faced in their pursuit of free lives in a Florida that was of political interest to France, Britain, Spain, Creeks, Seminoles, and the United States. Self-emancipated people and free Blacks created havens of freedom in Florida generations before the Emancipation Proclamation, aligning with and assisting others in the pursuit of liberty.

Live Music
Shawn Holt & The Teardrops
Friday, April 22, 2022 / Bradfordville Blues Club / 7:30 pm / $25 ($20 advance)
The teardrops rain upon the BBC again, this time with Shawn “Lil Slim” Holt turning on the faucet. That’s right, Shaw Holt & The Teardrops come to the BBC on Friday, with Shawn fronting The Teardrops—the band that backed up the legendary Chicago bluesman Magic Slim, a/k/a Morris Holt for 35 years. Magic Slim’s tabletop portrait has graced the BBC for 20 years. Shawn took over the reins when his father passed away in 2013. The booming, thumping, powerhouse Chicago blues style lives on with Shawn’s thumb picking guitar incorporating the Mississippi to Chicago tradition of old school electric blues. “Lil Slim plays with just a thumb pick (similar to his dad’s style of playing), plucking out most of his notes with his thumb and occasionally using his other fingers, but no flat pick, so he is able to get that tone that you just can’t get any other way.
